Mwikali's Gift is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2005 to bring clean water to Usalama, a small village in Kenya. With its original mission accomplished, the charity is now working on other key projects to establish Usalama on the road to self sustainable development.

Current Projects

Community center and school expansion

In partnership with Engineers Without Borders-NY, we are developing plans to construct a new community vocational center and to develop six additional classrooms for the Usalama Primary School. The next phase of the project will see the construction of a community center which will provide a central location for sharing news and information as well as a permanent meeting space for community organizations.

Malaria prevention

Malaria kills an African child every 30 seconds and was the overwhelming health concern cited by the Usalama villagers in a 2006 health assessment. Mwikali’s Gift plans to raise funds to provide insecticide-treated bed nets (ITNs) for each family and malaria prevention education. We are currently researching potential partner NGOs in the region that could oversee the purchase and distribution of ITNs and to continue the health education of the Usalama villagers.
